Pterodactyl Sighting in Mexico

By cryptozoologist Jonathan D. Whitcomb

Here’s part of an email I received recently [corrected for English]:

I’ve been talking to my mother about the pterodactyl like creature she saw about 15 years ago. . . . in Lázaro Cardenas, Michoacán (Mexico) . . . There were cats, iguanas, bats, raccoons (at night) and even once a baby crocodile pass through . . .

. . . in 2007 . . . One morning, around 7:00 am, my mother left the house . . . about 80 meters far from the house she noticed what she described . . . a small pterodactyl like creature climbing up . . . the tennis court fence (she was about 15-20 meters far from the creature . . .)

. . . she ran back to the house very scared, and told my father, who was having his breakfast. He went out to take a look, but the creature was not there anymore.

Physical characteristics described by my mother:

1) Small pterodactyl like animal. Leathered. . . . Wingspan, as they weren’t completely open, could be a meter (bit more or less)

2) No feathers.

3) No hair.

4) Color: Medium dark brown, similar to boxes.

5) Sharp peak, as in pterosaurs, but not huge, about two feet long (no teeth observed)

6) Claws on its two paws, it was using them to climb the tennis court fence.

7) Two wings were moving gently as it was climbing, but weren’t wide open; she noticed also [these] kind of bone rods on them.

I already have shown her different types of big fruit bats found on the internet and even this hammerhead bat, thinking that maybe it was a bat, but she would not recognize them as the creature she saw. . . .

Additional sighting report details (or lack)

Because the animal was climbing a fence and because the lady did not observe it for long, certain details could not be observed: She did not know whether or not it had a head crest or a long tail.

The lady’s son also told me, “between 2007 and 2008 most of the wild “home cats” living there disappeared. We never saw dead cat bodies; at the time we thought maybe the new administration eradicated them.

From Jonathan Whitcomb: After my expedition on Umboi Island in the southwest Pacific in 2004, I returned home to California, anxious to publicize what I had learned from native eyewitnesses of the ropen. Pterodactyl sighting in Texas

Alex Salinas was looking out across a field in Weslaco, Texas, in around the year 1998, when he saw something flying towards him. At first, he assumed it was a crane, but it was flying alone at night, which was not what cranes did in that area of southeast Texas. . . . it was not only not a crane but unlike any kind of bird. With a leathery appearance, it had a long tail and a bone-like head crest.
