Pterosaur Sightings in South Carolina

I uploaded this short video to my Youtube channel Protect Animal Life on January 6, 2020, and it was doing better than average up until about August 26th of that year. From August 27-28, however, it skyrocketed: Instead of 10-18 views a day, it soared into the hundreds, sometimes at least 50 views per hour. I searched for the reason and found it in the comments.

“Pterosaur Sightings in South Carolina”

“Charlamagne tha God” sees a Modern “pterodactyl” on the TV News in South Carolina

I never heard of Charlamagne tha God (CTG on this blog post) until I read the new comments under my video. At first I assumed he had mentioned my video in his own Youtube video; then I watched the podcast he had with Andrew Schulz (Aug 27, 2020): “Proof That Dinosaurs Never Existed!” I soon realized that hundreds of persons were watching my video because they had searched for information, using Google and Youtube search, after they watched that podcast of CTG and Schulz.

CTG shocked the other two person on the podcast when he said, “I saw a pterodactyl.” He later said the following:

. . . there was a time . . . between South Carolina and North Carolina, people used to see pterodactyls all the . . . time.

I [Jonathan Whitcomb] interviewed Susan Wooten, by email in 2007, about her sighting of an apparent pterosaur that flew over a highway that ran by a swamp in South Carolina.

The sighting was reported on The Gear Page, an internet forum that is popular with some musicians. Because it’s not a cryptozoology forum, we can better see how Western cultural assumptions influence how people react to a report of a “pterodactyl” flying over a highway on the outskirts of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Susan Wooten was driving . . . to the town of Florence, on a clear mid-afternoon in the fall of about 1989 . . . [In a forested swampy area] Wooten saw something flying from her left, then passing in front of her, behind her friend’s car. “It swooped down over the highway and back up gracefully over the pines,” . . . “It looked as big as any car . . . NO feathers . . .

Some cars in the opposite lane pulled over after the pterosaur-like creature flew over the highway. Susan wanted to pull over to talk with them but she would have been separated from her friend who kept going.

Pterodactyl Attack on a Fisherman

fisherman died after attack from a pterodacty

By the investigative journalist Jonathan Whitcomb

[Report a modern-pterosaur sighting]

About a tragic flying-cryptid encounter

On August 1, 2020, I uploaded to Youtube a video memorial for a native fisherman of the southwest Pacific who was attacked by an apparent living pterosaur. The man died three days later, yet he was able to kill the “kor” before it killed him. At least no other fisherman needs to worry about being attacked by that particular flying creature around the islands of northern Papua New Guinea at night.

Watch this video and see if it’s worth sharing with friends and family.

That attack against this fisherman could have been quite a few decades ago, perhaps in the middle of the 20th century. However that may be, it does seem to relate to other reports that large flying creatures sometimes attack people in other areas of Papua New Guinea.

Here is a still image from this mini-documentary:

a near collision between a plane and a large flying creature

The two pilots of this plane later told Whitcomb about the near collision

The following is taken from the description section of this video:

This second-or-third-hand account is not at all typical for videos on this channel, however. The vast majority of accounts of modern living pterosaurs, on “Protect Animal Life”, are first-hand accounts, when anyone is quoted regarding sightings. That’s part of why this encounter was included in this video number 77 rather than in one of the first videos created for this channel. Second-hand accounts are more likely to have become less accurate, in general, compared with first-hand ones.

That does not mean, however, that critically important points must be inaccurate in a second-hand account. Beware of assuming that the old Western dogma of universal extinctions of ALL species of pterosaurs can be adequately propped up by using old string and glue, so to speak: Systematically dismissing all accounts that are not first-hand and then rejecting first-hand accounts through a hodgepodge of unrelated excuses—That is hardly a scientific approach.

Now take a whirlwind tour of many years of investigations in cryptozoology, and prepare for a shock: At least two species of pterosaurs have survived, uncommon, not so much rare as widely, thinly distributed. Nocturnal pterosaurs have always lived among us . . .

The reality of ropens

Years ago, some skeptics speculated that reports of the ropen of Papua New Guinea came from people misidentifying the common fruit bats found there. Those critics, however, appear to have failed to take into account exactly what people report observing: something much larger and looking much different.

“Pterodactyl Sightings” on Youtube

By the investigative journalist Jonathan Whitcomb

Last week, I uploaded to Youtube the video “Pterodactyl Sightings“, a four-minute mini-documentary mostly about two sightings of apparent living pterosaurs in western Minnesota in the summer of 2018. I recommend you watch that video, so I’ll here quote not from that but from an email I got from the eyewitness who was later interviewed for the video.

man is interviewed because of a pterosaur sighting

I believe I saw a Pterosaur last year on July 16, 2018. I had just gotten done shopping at Walmart . . . in northwestern Minnesota . . . It was between 5 and 5:30 pm and . . . I turned to drive north and I immediately  looked up at this flying creature that looked and flew very odd.

It was going over the top of me at a height of about 200 to 300 feet flying northwest. I was seeing it from behind. I didn’t think to look for a tail or even notice one at the time but what I did notice was the way it flapped its wings. The wings seemed to roll or have a wave like form from the body outward to the wing tip. The wings would flap very slowly but the creature did not seem to have any trouble flying.

That was the first of two sightings in that area, within minutes of each other, for another of the apparent same species soon flew in that same direction. Remember to watch the video on the PAL channel (Protect Animal Life).

Another “Pterodactyl” Video on Youtube

On June 25, 2020, I uploaded the video “Cryptid Encounter“, concentrating on a few sighting reports, mentioned in brief, of apparent modern pterosaurs. The eyewitnesses that received more attention in this video were the following:

  • Harriet Sconce
  • Duane Hodgkinson
  • Wesley Koro
  • Mesa Augustin
  • Gideon Koro
  • Michael of Opai Village

Mentioned by name in the video are the first, second, and last names listed above. Also shown are dozens of sightings in the USA, mostly in California, yet those encounters are seen only briefly and with few details.

Ropen Rhamphorhynchoid in Minnesota

The teeth in this flying creature, plus the long tail with a “spade” at tail end, suggests it was a Rhamphorhynchoid pterosaur. This sighting was in northern Minnesota, near some cedar swamps. Of the three eyewitnesses, one sent an email to Jonathan Whitcomb, in 2011, reporting the shocking encounter.

By the way, this sighting is mentioned in the video “Pterodactyl Sightings”, which was uploaded to Youtube, on the channel Protect Animal Life (PAL), on Thursday, June 18, 2020.

.

The Girl who saw a Flying Dinosaur

This was the longest video on the PAL channel, as of mid-June, 2020. A significant part of it is about the sighting little Patty Carson had of a ropen at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in the 1960’s, several years before the U.S. Marine Eskin Kuhn had his sighting in that same area.

.

Ropen

How shocking was Susan Wooten’s sighting of a giant pterosaur between Columbia and Florence, in about 1986, on a remote highway surrounded by some swamps and wooded areas of South Carolina!

.

A modern pterosaur

What is this flying creature called “ropen?” Countless eyewitnesses, in many countries across the planet, have pondered what it was they had seen. But ropens continue to fly overhead, continuing to shock humans who had assumed that all pterosaurs had become extinct millions of years ago.

.

Ropen pterosaur

Those cryptozoologists who have explored tropical islands in Papua New Guinea, in search of living pterosaurs, believe the ropen is a large long-tailed flying creature having no feathers. It’s not yet officially classified in Western science.

Video “Ropen in South Carolina”

night over a city in South Carolina and "a NOCTURNAL flying creature"

By the independent investigative journalist Jonathan Whitcomb

Yesterday I uploaded to Youtube the music video “Ropen in South Carolina”, which is mostly about three sightings of apparent living pterosaurs in the northern area of that state.

I’ve previously written about these sightings, on my blog Cerritos Families, so I’ll not here go into details that have already been published there. I will explain a bit about my Youtube channel Protect Animal Life (PAL), on which “Ropen in South Carolina” is video #72.

The great majority of videos on this channel are about these incredible flying creatures. Some of the videos have footage from interviews with some of the eyewitnesses, including Duane Hodgkinson, Peter Beach, Milt Marcy, and Harriet Sconce, to name a few, although some of these are just brief excerpts from their interviews.

On some of the videos, I appear on camera, explaining various aspects of this field of cryptozoology. On others, I simply narrate the video or parts of it. Many of these are music videos, with text rather than the spoken word.

Most of this music video has the words of a lady who had three children who had seen an apparent “pterodactyl” in three separate encounters in three different years. The lady eventually decided to search online for other persons who had seen those flying creatures in South Carolina.

Living Pterosaur in Taylors, South Carolina

Hi, I have had three of my children tell me they have seen “dinosaur birds”. My first child was six at the time, back in 2004, when she told me she saw one fly over our car as we were driving down the road, but because she had just come from the hospital with a broken arm, and had been given pain meds I just chalked it up to some kind of hallucination, or maybe a crane. She was adamant about it being a dinosaur bird, and said it had the triangle tip on the tail, but I never believed her even though she is not a liar, and had no reason to make it up.
