Was Your Dog or Cat Carried Away by a Pterodactyl?

By the cryptozoology author Jonathan Whitcomb

Earlier this month, a man from Canada told me of his hypothesis about cattle mutilations in certain states of the USA, including Colorado and New Mexico: Modern pterosaurs may be responsible. It reminded me that I’ve recently thought about researching the possibility that some Americans may have lost pets to attacks from living pterosaurs, whether the flying creatures were ropens or some other species of “pterodactyl.” If you have any news or information to report on this, please contact me, Jonathan Whitcomb.

Be aware that as of early March 8, 2017, I recall no significant direct eyewitness report about a dog or cat being carried away by an extant pterosaur. The circumstantial evidence, however, cries out for me to tackle this possibility, for humans have been attacked, so why not family pets?

I did find a report, published online in January of 2018, that included the following: “A brave dog snatched away by an eagle in eastern Pennsylvania was finally reunited with her family on Tuesday, after being carried for miles.” I also found a report of a puppy that had been stolen by a crow.

Those responsible for taking away family pets were birds, so why am I publishing a post entitled “Was Your Dog or Cat Carried Away by a Pterodactyl?” I’m hoping that people will tell me about whatever tragic losses they may know of that could be related. It’s not that I hope for tragedies, but who else can anyone report that kind of loss to? I interview eyewitnesses of apparent living pterosaurs.

Pterodactyl Attacks in British Columbia

Be aware that I [Jonathan Whitcomb] have so far found nothing in the book by Paulides (missing persons) that gives any hint that he knew about living-pterosaur investigations when he wrote it. As of December 17, 2014, I have read through half of his book. The “pterodactyl” interpretation is my own, so please don’t hold that author responsible for this unorthodox view of missing persons on Vancouver Island (or anywhere else people disappear).
