Keeping Children Safe and Healthy
In Whitcomb Family Daycare, cleanliness is a high priority. With frequent hand washing (child care providers and children), disease germs have a really hard time surviving, let alone getting around. Gladys Whitcomb has a life-long habit of keeping her hands clean and keeping her surroundings clean.

When the children return from the park or from a buggy ride around the block or from backyard playground play time, the children wash their hands, usually with direct adult supervision, to assure thorough cleanliness.

Gladys's husband, Jonathan, regularly vacuums the carpets with a vacuum that is regularly emptied. When a vacuum is too old, it is replaced.

Facial tissue is handy, especially for wiping little noses. After a tissue is used, it is thrown away in a secluded trash can; this prevents cold germs (and other germs) from spreading easily: a simple way to keep kids healthy in child care.

Child Care Safety

Safety in the Whitcomb Family Daycare is not restricted to keeping everything clean. The
front yard is surrounded by a child-secure picket fence; this keeps the children safe when parents might be distracted while picking up or dropping off children. And the two childcare rooms are organized for safety.

When a child is found acting in an unsafe way, the child is then corrected with care.
