Indoor Child Care Activities
Indoors in the Whitcomb Home
The Whitcomb home has two playrooms devoted entirely to the happiness of children in child care: not only the design of these rooms but the furnishings and childcare toys, books, and supplies.
Indoor activities include story reading (by a trained preschool assistant), games, music/dancing, and free-play.
The large family daycare room has a bathroom for potty-trained children. This is also the bathroom used for hand-washing before meals.
The smaller daycare room has a changing table that Gladys uses for diaper
changing infants and toddlers. This room also has additional toys and other kids' supplies for fun and activities.
The kitchen is convenient to the larger kids' room. Here Gladys prepares meals: breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack (dinner is also prepared for those few children that stay later), according to C.C.D. food standards.
The living room is used for children sometimes: for chess lessons, piano lessons, and occasional videos for children (NOT every day for TV, though).
This room is also used by some older children for homeword or story-telling (stories more interesting to older children). On the days when the Whitcomb Family Daycare has more children than usual, kids may be divided into groups, for there are sometimes as many as three qualified adults available during busy times. Few family childcare homes are so dedicated to children.
