Many videos on YouTube are positive about the possibility that not all “pterodactyls” became extinct millions of years ago. On November 24, 2023, a video was uploaded on the YT channel Protect Animal Life, and it directs viewers to six other videos that are on five channels:

“Legend or Lie? Tombstone Thunderbird”

This is the least supportive of the concept that one or more species of pterosaurs may still be living. In fact, if you watch only the first two thirds or so of it, you’ll miss the surprise near the end: Although the newspaper article in The Tombstone Epitaph may have a number of falsehoods, it may be based upon an actual event with two ranchers who tried following a large flying creature before their horses refused follow it.

Jacob Guerra introduces this video, and after providing basic facts about the state of Arkansas he gets into a dramatic presentation of an encounter a lady had with a gigantic flying creature that flew in front of her pickup truck on a small bridge in a rural area.

Explorers and cryptozoologists Milt Marcy and Peter Beach explain how they witnessed bioluminescent flying creatures at the Yakima River in Washington State and an apparent living pterosaur in Papua New Guinea.

Ropen or Pterodactyl? American Eyewitness Talks

The American World War II veteran Duane Hodgkinson was interviewed, in 2005, by the cryptozoologist Garth Guessman. The resulting video (on the YouTube channel Protect Animal Life) is one of the most popular on YT for supporting the possibility of modern living pterosaurs. The sighting itself was in New Guinea in 1944.

The investigative journalist Jonathan Whitcomb explains how he can understand the perspective of a typical skeptic: In about 1968, he was a skeptic himself, although he now firmly believes in modern pterosaurs. His sister, who was in high school at the time, had a friend who declared that she had seen a gigantic “pterodactyl” that flew up into the foothills just north of Altadena, California.

Cynthia Lee, in Raleigh, North Carolina, recorded with her cell phone camera two large ropens. Those flying creatures were close enough that she was able to record both of them while the city bus she was on began to pull away. The apparent pterosaur that was flying much lower was being chased by a bird.

This YouTube video is on the channel Dino Discovery. Milt Marcy and Peter Beach are interviewed concerning their pterosaur sightings and investigation into these flying creatures in the United States and in Papua New Guinea.

In this YouTube video, the flight instructor Duane Hodgkinson reveals what he and his army buddy saw in 1944 in the southwest Pacific: a “HUGE” “pterodactyl” that flew overhead, just west of Finschhafen. The YouTube channel is titled “Jonathan Whitcomb”.

This is one of many videos on Whitcomb’s YouTube channel “Protect Animal Life”. It mostly covers two “pterodactyl” sightings in the United States. One of those encounters was in Raleigh, North Carolina.

This is also on the “PAL” channel (Protect Animal Life): Jonathan Whitcomb’s confession that he disbelieved a sighting report when he was young (in about 1968). The encounter was in Altadena, California, a little north of Pasadena.

This YouTube video leaves a crack in the door for believing that an apparent pterosaur flew near Tombstone, Arizona, in the late 19th century. “KGUN9” is the name of the YouTube channel (Whitcomb is not connected with it).

Ropen of Arkansas Reenactment Living Pterosaur Pterodactyl

The main point in this YouTube video is the sighting of a huge pterosaur that flew over a small bridge in rural Arkansas years ago. The YT channel is THE ROPEN NETWORK (not owned or controlled by Jonathan Whitcomb).

About 3 weeks ago, A friend and I were on my back porch here in Rural Covington, Louisiana when we both saw a huge bird that looked like a Pterodactyl fly over my property at about 200 feet elevation. It had a long beak with a rear ward protruding crest behind its head, the wings were very bat like and I could see two feet extending rearwards behind the bird. I would estimate the wingspan to be approx. 8 to 10 feet across. I could not see any feathers on it. . . .

I got my own story: My dad and I were driving down this back road in SC and we saw these gigantic bird things. Let me add we were like half a mile away, maybe a little further, but they had to be like almost 10 feet tall because it was just so easy to see them from far away. We stopped in the road because we were shocked seeing a bird so huge. We got closer. It was like a greyish brown, and had some blue on its head. Its head was long and its wings were really skinny but it was shaped like a stretched M. It wasn’t flailing them around but just opening and closing the wings. It looked like it was eating something. I vividly remember they were on top of this huge tree, and every time they moved their wings the tree moved . . .

Are Modern Pterosaurs Dangerous?

The following is not a first-hand account but from a native who contacted me by emails in 2010, and he got the story from the grandson of the native fisherman who died three days after being attacked by a kor.

Recent investigations suggest the fiery flying serpent of the Old Testament was not actually a snake but a Rhamphorhynchoid pterosaur. Even more recently, “pterodactyl attacks” against humans in Canada have been reported in a nonfiction cryptozoology book, Bird From Hell, by Gerald McIsaac. This author believes that many human deaths may have been caused by attacks from what some Native Americans in British Columbia call the “devil bird.”

I was four years old. . . . no clouds . . . early fall. I was walking from the pumphouse/ chicken coop . . . I looked up behind me . . . I know what I saw, because it was less than six feet above me. This thing was huge. I liken his body size to a Volkswagen bug. [It was] covered completely with brown / blackish fur [and had] no feathers. . . . I ducked down just enough, I guess, for it to be a miss for it. I stayed looking up [at it] this entire time. It opened its beak . . . I see teeth and at four I knew that wasn’t right . . .

“Pterodactyl Sightings” on Youtube

Last week, I uploaded to Youtube the video “Pterodactyl Sightings“, a four-minute mini-documentary mostly about two sightings of apparent living pterosaurs in western Minnesota in the summer of 2018. I recommend you watch that video, so I’ll here quote not from that but from an email I got from the eyewitness who was later interviewed for the video.

I believe I saw a Pterosaur last year on July 16, 2018. I had just gotten done shopping at Walmart . . . in northwestern Minnesota . . . It was between 5 and 5:30 pm and . . . I turned to drive north and I immediately looked up at this flying creature that looked and flew very odd.

It was going over the top of me at a height of about 200 to 300 feet flying northwest. I was seeing it from behind. I didn’t think to look for a tail or even notice one at the time but what I did notice was the way it flapped its wings. The wings seemed to roll or have a wave like form from the body outward to the wing tip. The wings would flap very slowly but the creature did not seem to have any trouble flying.

That was the first of two sightings in that area, within minutes of each other, for another of the apparent same species soon flew in that same direction. Remember to watch the video on the PAL channel (Protect Animal Life).

Ropen Rhamphorhynchoid in Minnesota

The teeth in this flying creature, plus the long tail with a “spade” at tail end, suggests it was a Rhamphorhynchoid pterosaur. This sighting was in northern Minnesota, near some cedar swamps. Of the three eyewitnesses, one sent an email to Jonathan Whitcomb, in 2011, reporting the shocking encounter.

By the way, this sighting is mentioned in the video “Pterodactyl Sightings”, which was uploaded to Youtube, on the channel Protect Animal Life (PAL), on Thursday, June 18, 2020.

The Girl who saw a Flying Dinosaur

This was the longest video on the PAL channel, as of mid-June, 2020. A significant part of it is about the sighting little Patty Carson had of a ropen at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in the 1960’s, several years before the U.S. Marine Eskin Kuhn had his sighting in that same area.

How shocking was Susan Wooten’s sighting of a giant pterosaur between Columbia and Florence, in about 1986, on a remote highway surrounded by some swamps and wooded areas of South Carolina!

What is this flying creature called “ropen?” Countless eyewitnesses, in many countries across the planet, have pondered what it was they had seen. But ropens continue to fly overhead, continuing to shock humans who had assumed that all pterosaurs had become extinct millions of years ago.

Those cryptozoologists who have explored tropical islands in Papua New Guinea, in search of living pterosaurs, believe the ropen is a large long-tailed flying creature having no feathers. It’s not yet officially classified in Western science.

I call this video a brief introduction to living-pterosaur investigations, yet it’s longer than the great majority of videos I had previously uploaded to this channel: almost seven minutes long. I put it into the playlist “Pterodactyls in the Tropics.”

It begins with a brief overview of what was accomplished in the late-20th-century expeditions on Umboi Island. It then covers a bit of what we did in the two expeditions of 2004, including my interviews of Gideon, Wesley, Mesa, and Michael: Three clear daylight sightings and one ropen-light sighting at night. Excerpts of the interviews are shown.

Almost immediately after hearing about her passing (Patty Carson), I began creating a Youtube video on her sighting at Guantanamo Bay. It took more than two weeks of work to complete “The Girl who saw a Flying Dinosaur.”
