Brian Hennessy and several others were riding in a truck on Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea, in 1971, when they heard the sound. Hennessy . . . saw a large flying creature with no sign of feathers . . . [and a] “longish narrow tail.”

Duane Hodgkinson and his army buddy, in 1944 New Guinea, entered a clearing just west of Finschhafen . . . a huge form started running to the left, flapping its wings. . . . as it ran, he saw a long tail (he guessed 10-15 feet long) with no possibility of confusion with feet, for the creature was running. He also saw a long appendage coming out of the back of the head . . . [Also, the creature had no feathers.]
